Catalog Full Description
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is designed to prepare leaders for the nursing profession who have expertise in advanced nursing practice with an individual specialization. The DNP Program is consistent with the overall mission of the School of Nursing which is to prepare nursing leaders who can facilitate quality health care for our nation. The Post Master's to DNP track focuses on the clinical and translational sciences, the philosophical basis of advanced nursing practice, and the socioeconomic factors needed to transform and evaluate health care. To achieve the highest level of advanced nursing practice, students are educated and socialized for their roles both didactically through coursework, seminars, and experientially through the clinical scholarly practice. Students are expected to develop a deep understanding of the scientific and ethical foundation of reflective practice and the economic, political, and regulatory forces that affect quality of care. With this foundation, students will be able to translate research into practice by designing and evaluating innovations in care to improve the health status of individuals, families, communities, and the nation.
